I am setting up my new 990/770 combo and when I do the auto setup I get the following message even though the setup goes to all seven speakers and I hear the test tones from each.

"Surround is disconnected but surround back is connected. After turning power off, check surround and surround back speaker connection. And then retry."

I shut it off and on but since sound was coming out of all seven speakers this was kind of a wasted exercise. Any ideas?

And I am connecting the sat/dvd component connections to the 990 and they do not display. Am I missing something? The OSD is displaying through component. I first had tried to use S-Video to config via OSD but it keep putting my display (50 inch Panasonic plasma) in standby mode so I connected 990 via component.

Was hoping to watch something really loud tonight but I am stumped.

I am my own worst enemy at times. I have the video/audio working fine through the 990 now.

But any idea why I get the "Surround is disconnected..." message?

Is there any chance the side surrounds and rear surrounds were swapped? You might want to try the manual test tones and verify that each speaker is connected to the correct channel by scrolling through each individual test tone in turn.

All the auto setups I ever tried (HK, Denon, Marantz) made errors at times...always best to use an SPL meter (Radio Shack) and your ears...
And before you try auto make the settings roughly correct manually.
