Just set up my 990 ordered in June.

Is there a way to send a full signal to the LR channels with digital input? My sub is wired in with my LR speakers so that I can bypass the 990 for my stereo gear. If I program LR large and no sub, it sounds as though the 40 Hz crossover is engaged.

I see that the analog input can be programmed this way with the new firmware. Can the pre-June units bypass the crossover in analog? Or am I stuck doing the upgrade?

If the left and right channels are large, then no crossover is applied to them. I don't believe there was anything in the original firmware that messed that up. Even still, I'd recommend doing the update if you can, if only to benefit from some of the other improvements as well (editable audio input names, current surround mode display, direct sync adjustment displayed on the front panel).

The 7.1 analog inputs do have the full bass management applied if speakers are set to small.

Gonk, are we sure that bass management does apply with 7.1 analog input if speaker is set to small?

Yeah, we're pretty darn sure. I'm pretty sure I've even tested it, but it's been a while since I would have done that (and as crazy as work's been the last few days, I'm not even certain of my name at the moment - when the HVAC guy's doing electrical design, you know you're pushing to meet the deadline).

Gonk, since you still have time reading and replying emails from this website, I don't think that you are really that crazy with your work that earn for the living. Hee heeeee!

I thought the bass management was only in digital domain at 990 and we need to add a bass manager to 990 for the 7.1 analog input. I am wrong, than!

The number of visits to the saloon (and number of posts, for that matter) has definitely dropped off in recent days...

Bass management is only in the digital domain. When speakers are set to small, the 990 converts the 7.1 input to digital and applies the standard bass management settings. I describe it in more detail in the bass management portion of my 990 review .

Now, to find some lunch... smile

Gonk,
Some of us do not want the 7.1 anolog signal to digital, apply bass management settings, then change back to anolog.

Bring your lunch box from home is better.

Yep, you're quite right - that's why a number of us have inquired about adding an option in the firmware to control the 7.1 direct input's bass management separately (essentially a toggle for analog bass management of the 7.1 input).

So Gonk, on my hd dvd player I don't need to set the delay settings right? The other day I changed them in the player to match my receiver delay settings...

That is correct, you can leave the delay settings zero in your HD-DVD player.

Thanks Gonk. Also, what of your posting in the 970 thread about getting pro logic IIx over analog? Is this possible with the 990 as well?

I'm not aware of it being possible (still not sure about how it'd reliably determine whether it has a 5.1 or 7.1 connection), but I may do an experiment or two later tonight.
