Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my Denon AVR 1803 with either a Denon AVR 4806ci or Outlaw 990/7700. My room is 15x15x26 (open space to the kitchen). I have a 7.1 Polk Audio RTi series (from RTi8,CSi5center, RTi6 surrounds and FXi5 2nd surrounds) and the sub is a SVS PB-12. I heard the Polks need a lot of juice to get them to run at their full potential. I like the specs of both the Denon and the Outlaw but I'm leaning towards the Outlaw 990/7700 for it's 200WPC. My audio/video activity is 90 tv/dvd watching and the rest listening to music which consist of Jazz music ( John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Miles Davis etc). I'm pretty excited about the new technology that is coming down the road (HD DVD , HDMI 1.3 etc) but there a lot of bugs to be sorted out before the average consumer can benefit of the next generation of HT. I don't want to wait to see what's down the road but get what's logical right now and hopefully whatever I Purchase can accept upgrades.

Any thoughts would be well received.

The Polks do perform their best with plenty of power behind them. The LSi's (LSi15 and LSi25) are the most extreme cases, but the RTi's appreciate plenty of power as well. One plus to the 990/7700 now is that the amp can serve you well for a very long while, and once those new technologies get a bit more sorted out you will have the option of just replacing the 990 with a processor that includes those options.

Thanks for the info. Will balanced cables make a big difference with the 990/7700 set up? How is the 990 as a processor for HT and 2 channel music?

The benefits of balanced cables is a source of some debate - some say no difference, some say a detectable difference. There are a number of reports that indicate the balanced connections are better at coping with ground loop problems. As for the 990, I've found it to be a very impressive performer for both HT and two-channel.
