I got my 990 today and I couldn't be happier! One thing is unclear though...

I am using an Oppo OPDV971H w/ DVI out. However, when I connect the DVI cable to one of the DVI inputs on the 990, my projector (on component) isn't getting a signal. I read in the manual for the 990 that you have to hook up a component video line in addition to the DVI line so that the 990 recognizes it. BUT, when I go to select the input in the menu (for DVD), I select DVI-1 and I get no signal. I have to select COMP-DVD to get it to work.

In short, is it possible to route a DVI signal to the component tv out? I really wanted to use the DVI output on my player because it then uses the DCDi by Faroudja.

Your 990 is behaving as intended. The DVI and component connections are completely independent - the 990 will not output DVI source video to component or vice versa. It will eventually become common for processors to transcode analog video (up to and including component) to digital (DVI/HDMI), but even then it won't go the other way - DVI inputs will not be converted to analog. From a design standpoint, you are burdening one more component with (hopefully) good video DACs - the HD receiver (cable, satellite, or OTA) and DVD player already have them, as do the handful of analog HD sets still around, and the performance of that complex piece of video processing has a significant impact on video quality.

Does your projector have a digital input?

Yea, but I ran component cable when the room was being constructed. I can still add a DVI line because I left a channel to pull wires...but do you think it's worth the money? It's a fairly long span (25-ish feet).

I either have to sacrifice the dvd quality or spend roughly $150+ on a DVI cable.

I'd suggest pulling either a DVI or an HDMI cable (HDMI would be easier to fit through and would be compatible with a future projector if the upgrade bug ever bit) - there are really compelling reasons to leave your video signal in the digital domain, since for one thing the projector itself is a digital device.

Alright, I'll probably get a DVI-HDMI cable. Know of any low price online vendors that carry it?

200 bucks for a 8 m cable isn't going to cut it.

I've gotten my DVI cables from Pacific Cable , but others have mentioned Monoprice . For that length, you'll want a good one (since you're pushing a bit beyond the standard's maximum length).

When I ran my projector my 35' DVI cable was like $30, I think it was from Pacific Cable. Don't get stupid with the cable..no use in spending $200.
