because I have not been able to figure out how to get a PLII output from the 990 when the DD source doesn't have the center mix. I can't stand the phantom effect!! On the 950 it was an easy operation from the remote but on the 990 I have to go into the menus of the pre pro and my cable box. I am really unhappy about this as I was hoping the firmware upgrade would have done something about this. I finally did the bios upgrade but I wasnt having issues with the things that it fixed, argh!!!

I take it you are trying to apply Pro Logic II/IIx to a Dolby 2.0 source - I've had no trouble doing that with my 990. You can use the "Dolby" button on the remote to cycle through modes (including Pro Logic II-Movie and IIx-Movie), or you can press the "Surr Mode" button on the front panel and the up/down buttons. Does that help any?
