I am considering a 990 with a 7125 or an arcam avr300. They seem to both have great ratings but I already own a Carver AV 505. It is rated at 80x5 conservative. it sounds great with my old Marantz 2230 as a preamp.It sounds comparable to my Marantz sr5300 when I use the Marantz as a preamp,it is rated at 90x6. My thinking is that the marantz reciever may not be sending enough to drive the Carver. Getting to my question, does anyone have input on wheather they think the Carver will blend well with the 990 and have enough power to really drive my system. I have seen a review or two on the 7075 with the 970 and they were impressed. I would just try to get the 990 and demo it my amp but I don't want to lose the combo pricing. Is the 7125 that much of a step up from carver? Is there much real world diff. tween the 775 and my Carver?

If you buy just the 990 and decide the Carver wasn't enough, I think you can still order the 7125 and get the combo pricing - as long as you do it within the 30 day trial period. Just confirm this with the Outlaws before you order the 990.

Of course, you could just order the 7125 and do an A/B comparison with the Carver which is probably the only reliable way of knowing whether spending the extra $ is worth it. Sure, you might be out the shipping cost of the amp if you decide not to keep it, but you have to weigh that against the time you'll spend agonizing over the decision and wondering if you made the right one after it's all over with. How much is your time worth?
