I have a Model 990 I bought fom Outlaw that I have controling a used 755 - neither came with a dc trigger cable.

1. First, I bought a generic cable from Radioshack with a 1/8 stereo plug at each end. When I plug it in, the amp wouldn't power the speakers until I removed the cable - though the green light was on.

2. Next, I went back to Radioshack and bought a mono version of the same cable. The amp now works when the cable is plugged in.

BUT...

3. The 755 never seems to turn off. The green light stays on the entire time, and there is never a click sound like the amp is turning off. The cable is plugged in correctly, and I can't imagine what the problem is.

Is this normal???? If not, what am I doing wrong???

If I remember correctly, the 755 and 770's freen light stayed on all the time when it was set up to trigger on or off - it's sort of like a standby mode.

Macbeth,

I have a 990 and a 755 and I believe Gonk is right. When I first bought the equipment, direct from Outlaw, there was a trigger cable in the 755 box. I used the trigger cable (looks like a stereo cable to me) for a couple of days and as I recall the 755 light stayed on, but it was really in a standby mode. My 990 is now plugged into an always on jack in Bank 1 of the Panamax and it triggers the Panamax line conditioner to power on the 755 after everything else has been powered on. With the Panamax now in the picture, the 755 is truly off when I hit the 990 off button.

Also read my problems getting the trigger to work in this thread for a warning about the proper Radio Shack cable to use.
