Is there a display dimmer on this unit? It is the brightest thing in my glowing tower of electronics...

No. I've been harping for a display dimmer since I hooked up my 990 smile

You can set it to turn off in a specified period of time though.

You might see if you can find static cling thin plastic that is smoked. That way you could put it over the display.

not having a display dimmer is a pretty minor annoyance to me.. i just set it to turn off.. or leave it on. it's not that bright to me when it's on and i'm watching a movie.

Found something interesting in the list of RS232 commands. http://pdf.outlawaudio.com/outlaw/docs/990rs232protocol.pdf

One of the cammands is "System Display Dimmer, Off and On".

So the feature exists but we can't access it with the remote. Maybe an IR code exists but they ran out of buttons on the remote and had to leave something out. If an IR code did exist those of us with a programmable remote, such as a Philips Pronto, could access it. If only we knew the code.

It'd be more likely that we'd see a menu option to control it than a button on the remote. One question I have, though, is whether "System Display Dimmer, Off or On" relates to turning the display off entirely or on entirely or whether it means dimming it to the level of the display during sleep mode...

I think it can be done, its just a software issue. When I hiate "sleep timer" the display DIMS! Can someone pass this up the chain for the next firmware update?

Well, I prefer a readable display to an oh-so-pretty but hardly readable one during daylight hours as my Marantz SR9600 exhibits...

I'd like a dimmer as well.
