Has anyone ever had problems with the display timeout? I can't seem to get it to do anything but always display or only turn on for about 3 seconds no matter which setting it is on.

I haven't upgraded to the new firmware yet.

are you talking about the on screen display on your TV form the 990? Or the digital readout on the 990 itself?

There are several options for controlling the OSD, plus one for the front display and one for controlling how long the menu stays up. The OSD "pop-up" can be enabled or disabled for each individual input (that's the OSD MSG: ON/OFF option on each input's setup menu). The OSD menu can be set to stay on indefinitely or turn off after 15, 20, 30, or 50 seconds of inactivity (that's the OSD TIME-OUT: option on the SYSTEM CONFIG menu). The front panel display can be on all the time or stay on for 15, 30, 45, or 60 seconds after a command (that's the DISPLAY TIME-OUT: option on the SYSTEM CONFIG menu).

With respect to the 990's front panel display, I've noticed that the timout isn't honored when adjusting the volume. It will always go dark after about 3 seconds.

Initially this confused me a bit, but when I thought about it, I realized that it's a feature - and a nice one at that. I'd rather the display didn't stay on for the full timeout (in my case, 30 seconds) every time I adjust the volume during a movie. Good software anticipates your needs. wink

Anyway, assuming your issue is with the front panel display, try hitting just the NIGHT button and waiting. Does the display stay on for the period you've set it for?

if the OSD stays on to long... you can either go into the menu as gonk described and lower the timeout time.. or just hit the menu button your remote and it will turn off.

I don't think you can adjust the OSD for the volume.

gonk,

Good info on the different settings. Thanks for clarifying that the OSD is adjustable for each input. I missed that in the manual.

The ONLY thing I would like to see changed on the 990 is the ability to dim the front panel display, not just have it OFF or ON.

It's a great little (big) pre-pro, this 990!

Cheers!

I'm talking about the display on the 990 itself.

you can only set the display on the 990 panel to time out in like 15, 30, 45 seconds. I believe.... then it becomes dark/off. you can toggle it back on with by pressing the menu button on your remote

The display dims when you use the sleep timer so I would think that would have been any easy feature to add. It is very bright. Hopefully that is on the list for the next update. Hopefully there will be more updates.
