I have one of the new Toshiba HD DVD players and I want to use the 5.1 analog output to my 990's 5.1 (7.1) input. The Toshiba has the means of setting the bass management (speaker size and crossovers) but as we know the 990 does not let the signal go straight thru. Should I set the Toshiba's speaker settings to large and the highest crossover and let the 990 do the management or what? any suggestions? Maybe the new firmware will allow a bypass of the analog/digital/analog processing.

I'd set the speakers to large at the Toshiba so that bass management only occurs once.

I would by-pass/turn off all that stuff in the Toshiba if possible and let the 990 do all the processing. That's what the 990 is for and it's really good at it:)

I have to agree with the rest of the guys here. Set the speakers to large and let the 990 do the grunt work.

I hooked my toshiba up too. So, I should set the tosh up for all large and should I mess with the crossover or does that matter since they're set to large. ALSO, when listening to the coax or optical outs on dvds I have to go back and set them all to small and 80 crossover, correct?

I'm assuming you are only talking about the settings on the Toshiba itself. If so then yes the Toshiba crossover has no effect if everything is set Large. For coax and optical those setting on the Toshiba do not come into play as they are for the analog outputs only. In other words you can leave them all Large on the Toshiba and forget about it.
