Guys,

The 1st 2 discs of BOB came from BB online. Went into the DVD's menu on my yamaha DVD player , selected "English DTS". In the main menu pressed "play dvd". The dolby digital light stayed on, "PCM" lit up too... No "DTS symbol"

Do I need to force it to DTS on the 990 remote?
Some of you told me, you pop in WOW, 990 picks up DTS automatically? why not for me with BOB?

a little puzzled,
Thanks Vince

I've watched the BOB series several times using DTS and my 990 has never had a problem picking up and decoding the signal. Could be a setting in your DVD player possibly?

later,
simp

If you only saw "PCM" in the 990's display, then your DVD player is still set to the (immensely annoying) default of "PCM" for DTS audio. Your DVD player must be configured to output DTS as a bitstream for a DTS soundtrack to work at all. That is necessary to allow the player to pass the original audio data (literally, the unaltered "stream of bits" coming from the disc) from the player to the receiver or processor. Unfortunately, DVD player manufacturers got into the habit of setting the default to PCM back when DTS decoders were almost unheard of (back in the late 90's) to prevent an undecodable bitstream from reaching the receiver and have only recently begun to start changing the default to bitstream.

I looked in my yamaha dvd manual, it states in little font, yuo might not have DTS capable receiver, so PCM is the default instead of bitstream. That will change tonight..........

Thanks Guys,
