Hi there,

I've been using a Harmony 890 with my 990 for a few weeks now. I'm using the RF to IR translator to control the 990. Sometimes, the volume seems to jump by multiple dB, rather than one at a time. That is, I can go up on and down one for several iterations, and then, apparently for no reason, one of those button presses will jump by, say, 3 or more dB.

I can comment further:
* I'm not holding down the volume up or down button -- I'm intentionally hitting it one at a time.

* I've modified the "repeat" value in the 890 setup from 1 to 0 (1 was the default). No change.

* I've modified the "time between commands" value (I think it was 100mS and I changed it to 0). No change.

* I've put the RF to IR translator closer to the 990. No change.

* I believe most other commands are working normally (no multiple issuances).

So -- who else has experience with the Harmony 890 with the Outlaw 990, did you see this problem, and if so, have you been able to resolve it?

Thanks!

-- Otto

I have seen this behavior on my Harmony 676 remote as well. I have even had the volume "run away" several times. I haven't been using the Harmony lately as I am going through a lot of gear changes and am not going to set it up again until I know what is staying and going in my system.

I had the same problem with my mx-600. I discovered that it was a conflict with the the RF & IR both sending the signal to the sensor on the 990. When I covered the IR flasher that was stuck to the sensor on the 990 with a piece of tape so the line of site could not operate the problem was solved. Hope this helps your situation.

Well, I unplugged the two blinkers I was using to control "other things". So I'm just using the RF to IR translator to send the IR signal -- the remote itself is programmed to send RF only, no IR.

Same problem. Funk on the volume. Not all the time, not unusable, just enough to be annoying. And if my wife notices it, it's really there...

Thanks for the suggestions, and any other comments welcome.

If the Harmony RF receiver is like the Universal Remote receiver, it may have several IR emitters used together to send the signal. I'm tossing out stuff at random here, but here's a test that you might try: move the receiver so it doesn't have a view of the 990's sensor window and put an IR blinker over the 990's sensor, then see if that single emitter still reproduces the problem. If that fixes it, you may be able to put a screen over the 990's sensor so only the blinker has a shot at it.
