Batteries installed properly?

Remember that the "Power" button only turns the unit OFF, not on.

Press the "TNR" button to turn the unit on.

Fooled me for a little time as well, as PodBoy said, make sure the "TNR" button is pushed.

The 990's remote includes discrete "on" and "off" commands (something that Outlaw started doing with the Model 950 due to numerous requests from Model 1050 owners) to make remote macros easier. That way, folks with universal remotes that support macros can set up one macro to turn the system on (turn on TV, cable box, processor, and so forth) and another macro to turn everything off. The "Power" button is the "off" command (but, as cappra points out, the remote needs to be set to the "TNR" device in order to send commands to the 990). Any of the input buttons will turn the 990 on and set it to that input (again, assuming the remote is set to the "TNR" device at the time).

You can turn it on with the remote (unless you are talking about the master power switch on the rear panel) - it's just that the power on command isn't tied to the "power" button on the remote, but is instead tied to the input buttons.

Perhaps you might want to sit down for an hour or so with the manual for your 990 and give it a once over?

It's an excellent manual - far removed from the all-too-common gibberish manuals. Useful documentation has always been a strong point for Outlaw.
