I love my new 990, but I can't say the same for the remote! worse remote since my old Marantz unit! I tried both ways to get it to recognize the following:
1-Momitsu V880 DVD player
1-Sylvania HD box
1-Z1 projector
It finally did recognize my Pioneer 578 player, but thats about it! The lights are pretty though......
Oh well, a small price to pay for a wonderful prepro.
I must say that the setup menu was a breeze.

I picked up URC MX-700 remote last week from surf remote, it can do everything except go to Burger King for you! There about $170..not cheap, but worth it in this case. Easy to program via their software package.

There are a number of excellent universal remotes on the market - Outlaw elected to go with a fairly basic universal to keep cost down, plus it lets folks invest their time and money in the universal remote that they prefer. The most popular choices are Universal Remote and Harmony (owned by Logitech these days). I've used both the Universal MX-500 and MX-700 and consider both to be excellent choices (the MX-500 could be had from bluedo.com for around $85 last time I checked), but both are apparently being discontinued so they may be a little hard to find. Universal also has a consumer line with three good universal remotes (the URC-100, URC-200, and URC-300). Harmony is the other prominent source for good universal remotes. I haven't used any of their remotes (Universal's remotes are a little better suited to my needs), but they are equally as popular as the Universals.

I agree with Outlaw’s decision to provide an inexpensive remote with their products, however Outlaw does not appear to be as supportive of universal remote users as most of their competitors. No additional discrete codes. No Pronto CCF files.

They don't have CCF files, but there seem to be very few Pronto users around here. The more common remotes are Harmony and Universal, and we've got a decent collection of MX-700 files in addition to the Harmony database entries that exist for the 990 and 1070/970.

CCF files are the defacto standard for communicating IR remote codes. Most computer programmable remotes, including your MX-700, have utilities to convert them into the format required. Many companies post all their remote codes in CCF format on their websites for use by installers and informed users. If you ask for a code in the Discrete Hunter area of Remote Central it will most likely be provided in CCF format.

im using the harmony 680 , maybe not as good as the mx-700 but very easy to program, no problem with oppo , my 990 and hitachi rear projection
