Hi everybody, I just have a question, I have the 990 and a scientific atlanta explorer 3250HD cable box supplied by charter cable. i now have the cable box hooked up thru the 990 dvi inputs, well everytime i turn on the tv {jvc rear projection} i get the warning dvi is blocked or your tv doesn't support hdcp, this is a minor annoyance because before getting the 990 I had the dvi connections thru a geffen 2x1 switcher and it worked fine unless one of the connections came loose than I would get the warnings, any help would be great thanks.

Sequencing is typically what makes HDCP compliance get out of whack, especially if one device is a bit quirky in its HDCP implementation. My Pace HD box's DVI output is very fussy about HDCP - even when directly connected to the TV. Is the 990 switched to the cable box's input when you turn the TV on? The Gefen would always be in one of two positions, and might have already been switched to an active DVI source typically when you powered up the TV - the 990 wouldn't send anything to the DVI output if it hadn't already been switched to a DVI source, which could be what's upsetting your TV.

Hi Gonk I forgot to mention this even happens now without even going to digital in on the tv,but on the coax cable going direct to the tv, the geffen was a hdmi 2x1 and I was using dvi to hdmi adapters and sometimes they would work loose and the tv and or cable box would freak out, now its connected direct to the 990 and I get the warnings it's just a pain to have to hit exit everytime you change a channel, I wonder if I should just reconnect the geffen switch box.

With the cable box complaining about HDCP compliance of your TV, my suspicion is still on the sequencing - in theory, the box should recognize when an HDCP-compliant display becomes available, but cable boxes in particular (and for some reasons boxes from around the time the 3250HD was introduced - when DVI output was still new to those devices) aren't always well behaved in that regard. Here's a test to try: turn the TV on, set the 990 to the cable box's input, and only then turn on the cable box - with that sequence, the box should have no trouble finding your display.

Hi Gonk, yes that seems to work well but it also looks like I would have to turn on the 990 every time I want to watch tv, 90% of the time my wife watches tv she doesn't want it going thru the speakers but just thru the tv's speakers, the cable box is connected to tv with coax cable and dvi, this morning I also tried component out from cable box and got no picture on tv, so it looks like it is an either or situation, either dvi or component, but not both,

If you're routing DVI through the 990, you will have to have the 990 on to get the signal - there's no way around that - and many cable boxes will disable the component video output as soon as the DVI cable is connected.
