990 plus 950!!

I have gone back and forth for the past month trying to decide if I should get a 970 or a 950. The 990 was a bit out of my price range. I then decided to find a 950 and found one on Ebay and hit the "buy it now" button. I went to bed somewhat content. I get up this morning and find out that my wife went ahead and ordered a 990 for me as an early birthday present! So my question is, do I even open the 950'
s box and give it a try or just make sure everything works and put it back on Ebay. Go with the 990 and never look back? I'm sure the 990 is a better unit, but it does have some features I doubt I will ever use. Usage will be split 50/50 between home theater and SACD/DVD-A use.

Ditto what Gonk said. If features were the only reason to upgrade to the 990 I would have stuck with my 950.

You have two real gems ... the wife and the 990. My wife was secretly saving to buy me the 990 when I ordered it myself (luckily before she ordered!). It's the thought that counts, though!
Keep 'em both, and put the 950 up for bid (as I will do with my 950).

I have two Outlaw prepro's winging their way to me from opposite ends of the country and I am audioless for another three or four days. Both are coming by Fedex, most likely the same day. Must have read the online manual for the 990 ten times.

I did receive the 950 this monday and just had to hook it up and at least listen to some two channel audio. If the 990 is better than the 950, then I will be very pleased! I have tried a Panasonic XR45,
a Marantz 5600, the Marantz with external amps and just plugging in the 950 without calibrating anything , it sounded better than all of them. Fedex tracking says the 990 will be here Wed. 950's on Ebay.
