This is the first time that I tried the component input on my 990 and has major problem. No Video came out of the 990 Component output. I would hope someone can help me to resolve it.

My connection :
- DVD player component out connects to 990 component in ("DVD in" on the back of the 990)
- 990 Component out connects to Component in on Pioneer LCD TV component in.
- DVD player Compossit out conect to 990 composite in ("DVD")

I went into the 990 main menu --> Input config -->DVD1 --> Video and cycle through the following posible input choices:
1. DVI 1 - No picture shown in TV as I expected
2. DVI 2 - No picture shown in TV as I expected
3. COMP-DVD - should see video signal from DVD. No picture
4. COMP 1 - No picture shown in TV as I expected
5. COMP 2 - No picture shown in TV as I expected
6. S-video - No picture shown in TV as I expected
7. Composite - see DVD video on TV as I expected.

I connected the DVD component input to others 990 component inputs (VIDEO 1 in and VIDEO 2) and cycled throught the above input choices and have the same results.

I can see video signal on my TV if I connected the DVD player componenet output directly into my TV component input.

First, I'd suggest that you remove the composite connection - you're not going to ever want to use it. Make sure the component cable is connected properly between player and 990 (green to green, blue to blue, red to red) and set the DVD input's video to COMP-DVD. Also make sure the TV is set to use its component input - what you are describing currently is exactly what I would expect to see if the TV's input is set to either composite or s-video at the time (the 990 doesn't transcode from component to composite). Once that's done, give it a whirl and let us know what happens.

Taking a slightly different path to what the Gonkster suggests, are you certain that your DVD player is able to support both composite and component at the same time, and that no settings are needed on the DVD player?

Do you have any other component source to connect through the 990 to test?

Another quick check would be to hook the DVD player directly up to the TV- make sure that works, and then try to sort out any 990 issues.

Hello there Gonk!!
I have a question for you about the 990.
Simply put is it difficult to set up. I will be buying the 990/7700 in june and I figure I'd get a head start on my drinking if it is more difficult than my Yamaha 3300.
The damn directions for some of these things have a lot to be said about them.
Also I am thinking of selling my Yamaha 3300 in the next month or so and was considering asking for $650.00 plus shipping.
What do you think about the price? It is in perfect condition, no scratches or dents. However I do not have the original box.
Thanks,Frank

It is actually pretty straightforward to set up - the menus are only one screen each and laid out in a logical order for doing a complete setup in one pass. (And no cute but cryptic icons identifying menus, something that I've always found a bit annoying when I run into it on DVD players.) Any surround receiver or processor today is going to be complex to set up, but if you've done it before the 990's a pretty comfortable one to work through. The manual's also goign to help get you through.

I don't know what the market price would be for your Yammy - I'd probably watch Audiogon for a bit and see what others are asking. Perhaps some of the folks around here who have recently upgraded from Yamaha can shed some light on that.

You can download the manual from the Products section and read the setup procedures prior to buying the 990. I think you will find the 990 and easy pre/pro to setup.

Vuamp2, I regret to say I had the same problem you did: no video output, not even the setup menu, except from the composite connection. No S-video, no component. I didn't try HDMI because my VCR would have been useless and there's no setup menu there anyway. Your connections were exactly like mine. I was hoping my problem was unique, but apparently not. I suggest you contact Steve at tech support. Maybe there's a fix by this time.

My replacement 990 works fine.

Good luck,

Paul Nay

I should have said the replacement 990 is fine except for a problem in AM direct entry tuning above 1190 kc which I described on another thread. I never tried that particular bit with the earlier unit so don't know how general the problem is, but two other users have reported it.

On this one can of course take the position "AM radio - who cares?"

The AM direct tuning entry is apparently a software bug, so we can hope that the planned firmware update will sort that out for you.
