After 3-4 months of reading pre/pro and amp posts, both here and on other forums, I decided on the 990(ordered today) plus either the 7500 or the MCA50 amp.... Sound-wise and power-wise I felt that either amp could deliver the goods based on the numerous positive comments of the MCA50 and the older outlaw 755 amp, as well as the new 7500 posts rolling in now.
Anthem has since raised the MSRP on the amp to $2300, out of my league!! I caught a break, last night a little hi-fi shop in Maine put a 9 month old mca50 on audiogon for $1600 in mint condition. Cutting to the chase, the dealer got Anthem rep to cover the 4 yrs 3 mos left on the warranty on an inter-state sale...I said lets do it!! I called them up at bought the amp............
Thanks for all the help guys..............
Can't Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vince

Gonk,
Will do.....your advice to date has been key to my decision. I'm sure your deep 990 knowledge will come into play once it all arrives and I hookup....
Thanks Vince

I'm just curious as to why you chose the Anthem MCA 50 over the Outlaw 7500? I sold my Anthem MCA 5 series 2 in order to get the Outlaw. Needless to say I think the Outlaw has a better build to it and also has more balls in the bass department. The MCA 5 was a nice unit but I am happier with the 7500.

Svet,
I have been on a pre/pro and amp hunt for 3-4 months.
For the pre-pro: I weighed the professional reviews heavy, when they said the 990 was 98% of a Anthem AVM20/30 plus the strong 990 opinions here made it an easy decision, get yourself a 990!!
For the amp: I combed through many 1000-2000 amp comment posts, PM'ed maybe 25 guys...The end-result was: MCA5 good amp, ran hot like a toaster...the newer MCA50 a step up, stays 75-80F temp no matter how hard you drive it. Cosmetically will not win awards but is nicer looking than outlaw amp. You don't hear any issues with anthem amps period! The anthem name carries a little more muscle....Is it worth the new MSRP of $2300 over a $1300 (combo prcing)7500 outlaw amp, probably not, but when one came along for $1600 mint with 4.3 years on dealer warranty I grabbed it!
Both amps I'm sure deliver the goods! my 2 cents, Vince

Hi Vince, I forgot to congratulate you in my last post. I have no doubt that you will enjoy that combo immensely. I ran my MCA 5 II with the Outlaw 950 and had excellent results. I don't know anything about the MCA 5 running hot. I owned one for 4 years and never felt that it ran all that warm. I have a tube amp in my 2 channel rig so I have a different opinion on what hot means : ) I've also owned some Solid State Class A behemoths in the past that you could fry an egg on. I now own the 990-7500 combo and feel that it is bargain. Enjoy your new toys and let us know what you think. Regards Svet

Thanks Svet...
I'm sure your 990/7500 combo is a sweet setup!!!
I hear ya about class A amps, a guy had a B&K 200 watt/ch amp on super-sale on audiogon, I spoke with B&K about putting it in closed glass door ent. center...they said no way!!! without a fan system being installed......That 990 is so big, once it gets here, I'll have 1/4" on each side, maybe 3" above it..........
take care Vince

Hi Vince, I'm talking about real class a amps that run full class A. They are Big and heavy for the power they put out but sound soo soooo sweet. B&K amps do not run class A. They may put out a couple of watts in Class a but they are an AB design. The Amp I was using in my 2 channel Rig before my current Sonic Frontiers Power 2 was a Threshold SA4e. This was Nelson Pass's company before he started Pass labs. She was a real beauty and I wish I still had it today. Output power was 100 watts per channel and she weighed in at 98 pounds. The Heat sinks were massive and it had 28 output transistors per channel. I miss that amp. I posted some pictures below. They are not the best quality as the digital camera I had back then was a real POS. Nelson Pass always builds amps that look like they could support the weight of a locomotive on top of them. 8-)
