I would like to control the 990 volume with the Directv remote which requires a four digit code. Does anyone know what this code is?

No answer to this one? I have a similar problem. I want to input a remote code into my cable box remote (Scientific Atlantic) so its volume and mute buttons will control the 990.

Surely there is a remote code that will work? Big oversight if not.

I doubt that the remote provided with a cable box includes codes for Outlaw - not something that Outlaw has any control over, just the nature of what hardware manufacturers and service providers in the cable and satellite markets are going to focus attention on. I've got a PDF copy of a manual for one of the standard cable box remotes in my area (Time Warner uses Scientific Atlanta), and the list of receivers and processors is pretty short. There are some pretty obscure names included (Taekwang?), but there are plenty of other names that are missing (Anthem, Arcam, Lexicon, Meridian, B&K, Sherbourn, and Integra all join Outlaw in their absence).

One thing you might try with your Scientific Atlanta remote is the Fosgate Audionics code (169) - they based their FAP-T1 on the Outlaw Model 950 and I think they used the same remote codes, so the volume and mute commands may work for the 950 (and by extension for the 990, 1070/970, and even the old 1050).

That's just the type of suggestion I was looking for. Thanks, I'll try the Fosgate code, and report back.

Love the 990, just got it yesterday. Replaces a Sony TA-E9000ES that just died.

Nope, the Fosgate code wouldn't even take. Any others I should try?

Try Sherwood on my system I think that is either 2414 or 3019 depending on your remote, although if you have the codes for your remote double check those.

Also the newer remotes have a search function here is a cut and paste from my cableco's website:
Quote:

Searching the Code Library

Turn on the device.
Press and hold SELECT and the appropriate mode key (CBL, TV, DVD, VCR, or AUX) until the mode keys blink twice. For example, to search for a TV code, press and hold SELECT and TV at the same time.
Enter the code 991 slowly. The mode key you selected in step 2 blinks twice.
Point the remote toward the device, and press PLAY. The remote automatically tests each code in its library, beginning with the most common codes. The mode key blinks once each time the remote transmits a new code. The mode key blinks twice when it reaches the last code.
As soon as the device powers off, press SELECT.
Verify the new code is correct by pressing POWER. If the device powers on again, press SELECT to lock in the code. If the device does not power on, perform the following steps:

Turn the device on.
Press CH+ or CH- to step forward or backward one code at a time.
When the device turns off, press SELECT to assign the code.
If any of the above work you can thank me by finding a discrete power on/off code for the SciAtl8300HD DVR. laugh

The Sherwood codes don't take either, and they aren't listed on my sheet of codes from Scientific Atlanta.

Oh well, I guess I'm out of luck. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

The 990 is a JP1 remote. If you visit the JP1 forum here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/ You can either build a cable or purchase a cable, as well as download software which will allow you to program the remote with your pc. Building a cable out of an old IDE drive cable is very easy and reprogramming the remote is a piece of cake as well.
