I just measured my new 990 amd its maximum width is the faceplate which is just over 17.25"

Also, it appears the only ventilation slots are on top.

Can't help with the other questions as I'm a new owner who just received the 990/7125 combo this week...I haven't had the chance to hook up the new gear as of yet. I will spend a few hours on it tomorrow.
