Currently I have a Denon 3805. Am running seperate amps to all channels. Have been looking at the emotiva and the outlaw 990.
Need some advice on preamp a good remote and the sms-1. Will I gain much by going with the 990 over current reciever?
And any advice on a really good dvd player.
Thank you for your help.

I am replacing a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX that compares favorably with the Denon 3805--same price point originally, many of the same options, etc. I used the AVR's amplification secetion and when I decided it wasn't good enough, I began to ask around what might make the biggest difference...

Basically, my answer was:
1) Use external amps for the biggest difference and use the AVR as a pre-pro (do this first)
2) After a while using the AVR as a pre-pro, audition separate pre-pros and see if there is a $1000-2000 difference.

I bought the Outlaw 990 for pre-pro and a Sherbourn 7/2100A for amplification, and I will most likely be keeping both.

I have read very good things about both the Emotiva and the 990, but I felt the majority of positive reviews were for the 990, so that's how I went.

Going from a receiver to separates, I feel provides an immediate audible impact one can hear. The sound stage, separation and detail of musical instruments are just awesome. The 990 is one hell of a buy. Team it with the 2200 Mono blocks and you got one hell of a serious foundation for multi-channel/stereo set up. I have compared and audition alot of components at the CES show. Is there something better than the 990/2200 combo. Yes there is, but you are going to have to spend 10s of thousands to hear the difference in detail. Try the combo, you can always return it if you did not like it. Have fun.
