I'm a new outlaw member and am looking at the 990/7500 combo. My speakers are Magnepan 1.6"s front, CC3 center and MC1's for surround. I auditioned the Arcam 300 receiver recently and I felt it lacked authority until I bi-amp' the fronts. At that point the Maggie's came alive. My wiring is all in-wall and I do not want the cost and hassle of running new wiring. The 990/7500 sounds as if it might be the ticket. Besides home theater, I truly enjoy great two channel music which alot of prepro's lack at two channel. Any thoughts out there on two channel or driving 4 ohm Magnepan speakers

As it happens, there are a number of Magnepan owners rattling around here (Ritz will likely drop by this thread shortly and can offer some good input - he's using a 990 and a 755, the predecessor to the 7500, with 1.6's). There are a number of threads that might interest you, including Thinking about Maggies , Magnepan and Outlaw , and probably several more. The combination of 990 and 7500 should be a nice fit for both movies and two-channel music.

My Magneplanar 1.6QR's (just two-channel at this time) sound wonderful with the 990. What I especially enjoy, and didn't really expect, is the wonderfully clear, tuneful (i.e., pitch of instruments clearly distinguishable) low bass, which means 40Hz with the Maggies. The amplifiers the 990 drives in my system are nOrh Le Amp 2 monoblocks, so I can't comment on the contribution of the 7500 amp.

I also cannot comment on the 7500, but the 990 works wonderfully with my 1.6s and CC3 as well as the 3.6s which I just auditioned in my home. Maggies love current, so if there's any chance that you're going to step up to the 3.6Rs any time in the near future, I would look at amps with a bit more wattage than the 7500.

Hey there,

I'm very happy with the 990 and my 1.6's. I've got the Outlaw 755 which is roughly equivalent to the 7500. It sounds pretty good, though I'm in the process of upgrading to another brand of amp (just for the front 2 channels) that I feel sounds better. I'm going to keep the 755 to drive all the other channels. (I'm kicking myself for getting rid of my Adcom GFA-5802...sigh)

I'd post more details, but I'm in an airport hotspot and am running low on battery power. 8-(

Good luck with the new system!

Cheers,

Thanks for all the feedback. The 7500 sounds like a good power amp for the 1.6's but you all seem to be looking for a little more power for the mains. Has anyone tried the Sunfire amps? I saw on the web that Sunfire recently sold and the chat room chatter is that people seem very upset at the company who bought Sunfire and their plans to move production overseas for the sake of cheap labor. Their also closing down their repair facility. All that said, the Sunfire amps seem to be a good fit.
