I am in the process of finalizing my decision on the Outlaw 990/7125 combo and have just one question. How do I do firmware updates if I have a Mac?

Macs are very friendly when a device is connected to the USB port, so I was wondering what would happen if I did?

Also, I am using my Mission 77 Series speakers with this and wonder if the 7125 is too much power for them.

Based on the 970/1070 firmware updates, I suspect the 990 update will use a Windows-based program to install the update. I doubt that a Mac would be able to run the program, unless OS X's Unix roots allow it to run something like Wine to emulate Windows.

I loved the Sunfire solution - burn it to CD and send it over the digital audio input .... lovely!

That's assuming we ever actually see a firmware update. It's been in "real soon now" mode since I bought my 990. And that was 8 months ago....

Personally, I'd rather have it right than fast.

Thanks, everyone. I just received the 990 and waiting for the 7700 to deliver. This thing is huge. It barely fits on my rack (Container Store Skandia shelving).

Will report back next week once I get this powered up.
