I ahve just bgun to assemble my 990/7500 and would like to connect via the balanced cable. How does one add a sub woofer if the sub doesn't have the balanced capability?

Just use an unbalanced output for the sub - the level difference between balanced and unbalanced will be taken care of by calibration (both sub amp gain and the 990's sub channel trim).
