My DVD player Samsung 841 has both connections. What is the better of the two audio connections and why?

Thanks
Troy

I kept having problems with a distorted signal from my 841 + Outlaw 990 when I used TOSlink cabling. The problem disappeared when I switched to coax so I never bothered to troubleshoot things further.

Cheers,

Optical does require a conversion of sorts (the signal remains digital, but does move from electrical to optical and back - a process that should be transparent), but it is immune to interference and noise from things like power cords. Coaxial eliminates the optical transition, but could be subject to noise if the interconnect passes through a cluttered environment. Most people consider coaxial better, but it's not something that I've ever considered conclusive.

I had issues with a ground loop hum with my cable box when i used digital coax. Switched over to toslink and everthing is great now. (of course, no conductors) I've heard coax is supposed to sound better, but I haven't gotten around to getting a ground loop isolator to test that out. I had a pioneer d912k prior to my 990, and I couldn't tell the difference between coax and toslink.

I've never been able to tell any difference between the two. To me, their sound is identical.
