I fine tuned the bass for movies via DVD and Directv, but when I used the DVD player to play CD's in 5.1 and stereo mode, the bass was boomy to the point where I had to turn it down. Am I doing something wrong ?

PS. I did adjust the speaker levels, size, corssover etc..to small, crossed at 80hz, with a sub.

Need more info. Do you have the DVD player connected digitally, or are you using analog connections? Which input is the player plugged into on the 990?

Okay, in stereo or 2-channel modes you can use the 2-channel offset in the Surround Config menu to kick it down a couple dB if you need to. You more than likely have the bass a couple dB hot for movies (I have mine set in this manner as well). I don't know what to tell you about the 5.1 playback of CDs and I am not sure if the 2-Channel offset effects the 5/7-Channel modes. This is a very good question though. You may have to experiment to find out if it does. If so, your problems are solved. Let us know if it does mutichannel stereo down, I would be interested to know.

well, I rechecked my settings, and the levels are matched for movies and music. In stereo when playing cd's, the bass is fine. In 5.1 mode, it is definitely bass heavy, but I can manually adjust it if I wanted to leave it on 5.1. For video music discs such as concerts, the sound is the same as dvd movies, so no problem there.
