Maybe I am missing something here but I was under the impression that you could get the On Screen Display using the Component Output from the 990, or any Output to your Display other than the DVI Output.

I have a XM Tuner & VCR that connect to the 990 using Composite video connections and I do get OSD with these devices but not with any equipment connected to the 990 using a Component Connection like my DISH DVR & Sat receiver and my DVD Player.

I do not have a Composite Out connection to my HDTV, only Component and DVI and I am not using the DVI because I wanted the On Screen Display, (and I have a CRT RPTV and don't see the benefit). In the Video Configuration Menu I do have OSD Enabled for DISH Sat & DVD inputs.

Are any of you able to get the OSD using Component Devices? Any idea on what I am doing wrong?

You can access the main menu "setup menu" over component, but will not get the volume or source and so forth over component.

So you only get volume, surround mode & input when using Composite and I guess S-Video? I wonder why this information cannot be shown over Component.

I know only the new $6,000 Denon AVR, 5806 I think, does OSD over the digital connections but I thought OSD (other than just the setup menu) over Component was becoming somewhat common in AVR's & Pre/Pro's.

The "pop-ups" (volume, surround mode, input) are superimposed onto the video signal, which is much easier to do with a simple composite or s-video 480i signal. When you move up to a component 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i signal, there's a lot more data involved in the video signal and overlaying data onto the incoming signal without degrading the input is a pretty tall order. OSD over component for the setup menu has become fairly common, but in general it is still done just as the 990 does it - by simply replacing the signal with a 480i signal carrying the menus.
