I'm considering purchasing a model 990 pre/processor and am interested in any recommendations re which amplifier you would suggest - a model 7700 or 7ea M2200's? Thanks, J D
I would take the 7700 as it sounds like it is in another league from the 2200 amp. It is also much more convienient to plug in one power cord as opposed to 7. It would also take up less space. I have heard people complain about the power of 2200s with 4 Ohm loads or at/near reference levels. I have never heard any complaints like these from prople about the 755/7500 770/7700 amps.

I'd probably also go with the 7700 - it will take up less space, eliminate six power cables (and in the process produce fewer opportunities for interconnects and power cords to crowd together). Both are good amps, so I don't think either would be a bad arrangement (speaking as someone with a pair of M200's and a Model 750 - predecessors of both amps).
The 7700 is a better amp, saves you space, cuts down on cable clutter, and costs less than $200 more. No brainer. Make sure you've got a 20amp recepticle/line to plug it into.
