I've got an Infocus 4805 as my main video for my 990. And every time I want to make a settings change on the 990, I don't want to have to fire up the projector and waste bulb life OR have loud fan noise while I'm trying to calibrate.
So I found a good solution.
CompUSSR - 5" Norwood Micro B/W TV with a composite video input. It only has DC (probably have to get AC from Radio Shack) but it takes 10 C batteries. Works like a champ. It's light, portable and makes it easy to make 990 config changes.
I may have to look into this. I have the 990 going to a 4805 as well and feel your pain. I do have a 19" TV sitting here doing nothing I was thinking about using for this purpose, but it is really larger than I need.

I use DVI so I went into the closet and found an unused TV too. I prefer a separate screen for the on-screen messages since I don't like print all over the characters on-screen.
I got a cheap little "USB video capture device" from CompUSA. I used that with my laptop to set up my 990 when I first got it and my LCD panel hadn't been moved in yet. Works like a champ on either the composite or S-video monitor out. I think I paid $30 for it.
