I just want to say kudos to the Outlaw folks for developing the 990 for the average consumer…offering quality, features and value.

I saw this review of the Cary Cinema 6 AV Processor on Audioholics website.

Cary Audio Design has been working on this home theater pre/pro since 2003 and has finally introduced it to the market. It’s only $2,500 MSRP and contains no DVI or HDMI inputs. Who’s your friend now? You be the judge!

Seems like a yawner to me. A much more limited feature set at 2.5 times the price of a 990. Cary makes nice gear (especially on the fire bottle side), but this doesn't strike me as much of a bargain, nor do the features seem to be very impressive.

Cheers,

But, features asside how do they stack up against one another. What brand of DA|Cs and processors are used in each, how do they sound, etc.?

According to the reviewer, the Cary's audio performance was the best he'd heard, with the Meridian 568, Lexicon MC-8, and Krell Showcase mentioned as other units he'd used. The feature set appears to be very limited, however, and it sounds like the unit has some interface design issues as well. As for components, the Cary uses the same Cirrus 49400 as the Outlaw units, but I didn't find anything that mentioned what DACs are used.
