I have found that the other functions of the remote lock up when the menu has been selected.just because you can't see it on your display doesn't mean it is not activated.I haven't used the component inputs but if you have a composite or S-video input that should work for the menu to be displayed.
EDIT: when the remote locks try hitting menu once more and see if it functions again.
