Hi all,

Why can I not relabel my audio inputs?

It appears that I SHOULD be able to relabel the audio inputs, being that the cursor navigates to their respective NAME fields, whereas other, non-editable fields are skipped by the cursor.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Dave

It's not just you - the 990 allows video inputs to be re-named, but audio inputs' labels are fixed.

One thing that I've long thought would be cool would be making audio input labels editable and allowing audio inputs to be associated with a component or DVI video input. It'd be a bit odd at first glance, perhaps (which is probably part of the reason that the capability isn't included), but I could think of some fun ways to use it.

Audio inputs not renameable? Grrr... As minor a tweak as it is, I hope it can be fixed in a future software update.

Until then, I suppose my CD jukebox will be "CD" and my wife's CD jukebox (she needs her own, her musical tastes being what they are) "AUX."

Thank you for your reply, Gonk.

Another advantage of having the audio inputs assignable is that you could use more of the video inputs - I count 11 video inputs on the back of the 990, but you can only use any 7 of them once because you run out of assigned V inputs at 7 (and that assumes you already cheat a little by assigning one of the component or DVI inptus to V5). Yes 7 is a a lot and you are already forced to use S-Video after the first 5 inputs....but I use 4 just by connecting my DVD player and cable box twice (audio vs video, and audio can be S-Video), then throw in an XBOX, and you are already at 5 inputs for a relatively simple system. If one could assign the audio inputs you can free up to three more S-Video connections by assigning a component or DVI input to "CD", "AUX", and "TAPE". It hardly matters what the "real" name of the input is because most of us rename them and use a different remote anyway.

I hooked up a Sonos ZP80 to my 990 via optical digital today and was surprised it had to be labeled "CD" or "AUX" on the 990. I quick search of this forum confirmed my surprise!

Is this an easy improvment for a future firmware upgrade? ie the ability to rename the 4 audio inputs?

Relabeling the audio inputs shouldn't be too big a deal - we'll see if it shows up in the firmware update that Outlaw's developing.
