Hello,

I am seriously thinking about purchasing a Outlaw 990 processor. I understand that the 990 can perform bass managment on the 7.1 inputs through a A/D conversion. My question is can this behavior be disabled?

I would like to setup a 5.1 system using various x-overs (all speakers set to small) and have movie surround delivered digitally. I also have a XBox that will be connected for 5.1

I have a Denon 3910 that I use for SACD and DVD-Audio. When listening to music I would like to use the Denon's BM and run 5.1 analog out to the 990 and use the 990 only for master gain with no A/D D/A or processing applied at all.

Is this possible or are these two scenarios mutually exclusive?

The only way to currently defeat the digital bass management on the 7.1 input is to set the speakers to "LARGE", although several people have asked for a separate setting for this. Short of a firmware update adding that ability, the only way I know of to do what you are talking about is to create a remote macro to change the speaker settings when listening to the 3910's analog output. Sorry.

Thanks gonk for giving me the scoop.

Unfortunately that is going to be a deal breaker for me since I spent quite a penny on the 3910 and really want to use it to it's full potential. However I have a few more weeks before I'm going to have to move on this so I will keep my fingers crossed for a firmware fix. My other option seems to be a Arcam Avp-700 which is quite a bit more and still doesn't do everything I would like (No HDMI Audio). I was hoping the 990 would tide me over until the Pre/Pros figured out what to do with DVD-HD Audio.

Reinyn,

Well, since you're looking for a 'tide me over' unit you may want to consider downgrading to the 970. It doesn't have quite the sonic capability of the 990, however if you're using the 3910 for SACD/DVD-A and presumably CD audio it may be acceptable.

The 970 has a 3-way toggle switch on the back to control how BM is applied to the 7.1 analog inputs (fixed 80Hz analog crossover/Bypass/Digital). With the toggle set to bypass you would get the behaviour you want for the 7.1 inputs and be free to set the digital processing settings independantly.

Thanks for the suggestion John, but I forgot to mention that I am running Focal powered monitors so I need to have balanced out.
