I'm really confused.

I'm trying to play a DVD-A Disc in my Denon 3910, connected to my 990 via the 5.1 direct connection out of the Denon to the 7.1 inputs in the back of the 990.

All I get is Stereo sound, and I don't know what the issue is. I choose the DD 5.1 audio track from the DVD, and not the DTS.

If I choose the DTS and switch the 990 to a input that has a toslink cable between the DVD and the 990, it works fine, but some how I think that the direct connections is supposed to be the best quality?

Anyway, I either don't understand or cannot get it to work. Any help?

If it is a DVD Audio disc you have to select the 7.1 input(really 5.1) in which the button is located at the bottom of the 990 remote. Then you may need to make sure that the denon is outputting multichannel audio in the setup menu of the 3910?

Since you've got the 5.1 analog output connected, I assume you are selecting the 7.1 direct input on the 990. If you have a DVD-Audio disc in the player, you should not have the option of selecting Dolby Digital or DTS - a DVD-A disc uses MLP (Meridian Lossless Packet) compression. What disc are you using to test this with?
