I finally received my 7125 amp yesterday, after a 10 day wait (holiday shipping ,etc); I had received my 990 several days before, but had not opened the box till yesterday. I set up my equip (DVD, CD, Sat receiver)last night. I am having real problems with HD lip synching...I'm talking about NO Setting in the lip synch menu fixes it (from 5 ms to 250ms)....I've tried all kinds of combinations with component in and out, DVI in and out, switching optical connects, etc. Nothing works...what's amazing, is when I put my original receiver (7 yr old 5.1 Marantz SR-685)back in the speaker/DIRECTV loop, everything is synched in perfectly. I had an older HD receiver lying around, and that works fine with the Marantz also (neither HD receiver with the 990). This is very unacceptable....In fact, I got a DIRECTV guy coming in on Monday to check out there end...if the problem persists, I believe I might look at some other equip.

Also, yesterday, when I opened the 990 box, there was a strong odor of smoke (not electrical, but fire, as in Job Lot/insurance sell-off, second store inventory) coming from within...in fact, the odor permeates my living room. I'm wondering if the 990 was some other brand that was bought by Outlaw and repackaged ...or was in some kind of warehouse fire somewhere....I can live with that, but the lip synch, I can't. Anybody have any input on what I could try???

-Joe

That's pretty odd, Joe - a 200ms lip sync delay should have a clear impact (although any setting less than about 15ms probably is indistinguishable from no setting at all). Have you tried setting a delay on a different input (one that works) and seeing what happens with it? That should let you see the effect of the delay.

How did you have the old receiver connected? Optical input to it, component switching through it, ...?

Gonk- Thanks for your reply......well, I gotta fess up... it was my bad; somewhere, in the "heat of battle" (and probaly shortage of sleep), late last night, I had made a wrong speaker connection. I also was having a problem with my SAT feed (actually, at the moment, all I have is off-air reception with my roof antenna).... Everything is all set at the moment...talk about egg on my face. Anyways, the bad speaker connection had thrown off the auto setup (I would assume)..Also, just picked up a new sub (old one has a bad amp) and added that to the mix and ran setup; all is nice. So, time to continue watching the Patriots!!!

Acording to the on line manual, a time delay to correct the lip synch issue is available on the 990. It does not state how much, or at what incerements.

I am thinking of buying one, and I know that I have a lip synch issue with my current setup which includes a Denon 3803.

The 3803 lets me adjust the delay (+ or -) at 10 ms increments I believe.

Also, has anyone had issues using a HDMI to DVI coverter if using one at the 990 and another one at the TV? I have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 that only has HDMI inputs.

The 990 offers a 200ms adjustment in 1ms increments. 200ms is a common limit on adjustment, probably in part because if you need more than 0.2 seconds of delay you have some serious video scaling problems of some sort.

There are a number of folks around here with HDMI TV's who have had no problem with using HDMI-to-DVI and DVI-to-HDMI. There are even a few users who had cables that used dual-link DVI connectors and discovered that the 990 will pass HDMI audio through the switch to the TV (although of course the 990 couldn't make any use of the audio signal).
