I'm having trouble getting the 990 IR output to operate a CD player behind a closed cabinet door. I used an old flasher from my reciever that the 990 replaced, and it didn't work. I bought a niles flasher, and it isn't working either. I was wondering if anyone else has run into difficulty with the IR output.

Late add to thread...but I'll give it a try. T-bag, did you ever get your IR output to work? I can't get mine to work either, and have tried several things (different emitters, with/without output to a connecting block, stereo/mono connectors). Has anyone out there gotten the IR output to work on a 990? Most of the info/posts out there on IR seem to be on controlling the 990 with the IR input, vs sending IR through it or using the 990 as an IR receiver.

nope, never got it to work, and never heard back from tech support about my problem, but they were dealing with the bass management thread at the same time...

Tech support replied to me, but the response wasn't helpful; I don't think they understood that I don't care about the IR input and just want the IR output to work. Or they don't know how to get it to work. Or it doesn't work. 'Not a huge issue but it would be nice to get it working. I have tried: mono-plug emitter plugged in directly; stereo output to Xantech CB60 Connecting Block; mono output to CB60. I also tried sending signals straight through in various configurations but couldn't get it to work (I couldn't even get the signals to pass through - the 990 ~blocked them). I have a few more experiments I may run.

I'm trying to interface my 990 with my Xantech system. The IR OUT does not work. Did you guys find resolution for the problem?

krisdz - You need the Xantech 794-10 interface module gonk mentioned above, I assume any output would require a similar (same?) module.

I think I'm missing something here (don't be shocked). I thought the 990's remote in/out jacks allowed for direct connections of receivers and emitters (respectively). In my experience, a Pre/Pro or receiver that acts as a "passthrough" for IR signals already supports the necessary bandwidth and voltage specs for the signal (38Khz std, I think). Since a block simply provides the necessary power and distribution, it's superfluous in conjuntion with the 990 unless you're sending the signal through more than one emitter cable.
Anyone know what the manual says?

Thanks, gonk, that was very helpful. I found the the items you mentioned on Xantech's site, but strangely enough I've never seen these items carried in any of the stores/webstores I've visited that carry Xantech. I've worked on comparable products from Parasound and B&K that didn't run into this incompatibility. Even though the argument could be made that this isn't Outlaw's problem, I would think this is something Outlaw would want to document in some way, since they do mention the manufacturers by name.
