I am seriously looking at the 970/7125 combo or the 990/7125. I do have some questions about the 990 and its rated high output impedance. Does anyone know if that is on the RCA's or XLR's ? I would love to consider the 990, but that output impedance should be much lower than 1k.

Some others around here may know the answer, but if you haven't done so already you could also drop Outlaw a line directly .

I wouldn't get too caught up in the paper specs. I have done this in the past and have found that the best specs do not always provide the best sound. The 990 is a true performer no matter what the specs say. It is the best piece I have ever had controlling my system by a considerable margin.

I'll second that. I have never heard an audible effect of output impedence. Specs are fun to compare but the proof is in the sound in your room with your mix of components. Try the 30-day free home trial and see what it sounds like if you think the specs aren't good enough. I was amazed, you may not be, but what can you lose? I should also note that I have heard some equipment with great specss that sounded awful and vice versa. Let the force be your judge.

Back in the olden days with those high falutin' tube amps, the "ideal" was to have a pre-amp where the output impedence was about 10% of the input impedence of the amp.

It is possible, with a large enough impedence mismatch, and a long run (or poor quality interconnect) to create a situation where the signal could be attenuated a few dB.

I'm too lazy to look up the output impedence of the 990. But if it's 1K, then any amp with an input impedence over 10K should be fine and result in little measurable signal attenuation. In this case, I'd say it's not an issue (by a rather wide margin) and I'd definitely choose the 990 over the 970...hands down.
