What's this groups opinion. Space and power cords aside.

Thanks!

Mark, I have a 990 and 5 200s and if I had it to do over again I would probably buy one of the 5/7 channel amps instead but the reason is the sheer bulk of the five 200s, about double what the multichannel amp would take. My equipment is in a built-in cabinet that is spacious but with the 5 200s and the 3 NHT A1's/X1 for my subs it looks like an amplifier store and there's not much room left for the inevitable new toys.

My 51 year-old ears are very pleased with the sound of the 990/200s however and it was a huge leap in sound quality over the Sony STR-DA777ES receiver that was replaced. I suspect the 2200 will sound much like the 200 does. Bottom line, if you have the space (now and future) I think you'd be plenty happy with the 2200s now.

I debated and decided to hold out for the 7700/7500 model. I went with the 7125 trade up option. Figured I'd try it out and see what happens.

Right now I'm debating if I want a 7700 or 7500 since I only have the five speakers now. If went with the 7500 when I finally get the second set of surrounds I could get two monoblocks for the front speakers and leave the other five on the 7500, or I could spend the money now.

Based on what I've read I don't see the value in the seven seperate monoblocks, but I'm not that picky audibally unlike some. The only reason I could think of needing it was for convieniance of 'if something goes wrong' I didnt' feel like spending the money on that 'insurance' and seven power cords was a bit of an issue for me as well.

My $0.02

I emailed outlaw support about this and they said the new 5 and 7 channel amp have will have somewhat better imaging than the monoblocks.

I run my NHT's using all 7 channels of a 770, 4 channels for the FL/FR T5's and the remaining channels for the center and surround M5's. Never had a problem, even with a lowly 15A circuit wink , playing at silly levels.

I would go with the 5 or 7 channel amps. I have heard a few complaints about the 200/2200 driving 4 ohm speakers and think the larger models are a better design. I also don't like the fact that the monoblocks start in Class AB and switch to Class G.

Dek,

I have T5's up front with an M5 center and four L5's for surrounds. I just bought the second pair of surrounds and am waiting for the new 7700 to decide whether to buy it or get a couple more monoblocks. I also bought a second A1 to run the T5 subs in stereo since I do about 70% of my listening in 2ch where it can sometimes make a big difference. I bought the M200's kind of as a holdover from my 2 channel days when I almost always ran a couple of big monoblock amps. I like the effortless quality they can have with demanding or complex music.

770 with 2 NHT VT3 mains VC3 center and 4 VR3 surrounds. Always loud. smile

Room fairly "dead", 19x23. No problems with running out of power.

I'd hold out for the multichannel amp. The monoblocks are not in the same league with the 755/770...at least in terms of the published specs. If Outlaw builds the new crop of amps like the old, I would expect them to sound better, take up less space, and reduce clutter when compared to a pile of 2200 monoblocks.

Cheers,
