Would be interested to hear comments from people who have heard the 990 and the Denon 3806 with the same system. Particularly interested in sound quality for theater and 2 channel and any other comments you thing differentiate the two products.

Thanks.

Well I can't speak specifically for the 3806 but I had the 3805 that I bought back in March 05 and before that I had the 3802 and 3803.
After having the 990 for about 6 months now, I would absolutely never consider another Denon again.
I listen to most of my music in 7ch stereo and with the Denon's I experienced a muddy center channel sound and could not figure out why. I first experienced the problem when I upgraded to to the full 7.1 Polk Audio LSi series speakers with the 3803. After troubleshooting everything the problem pointed to the Denon 3803. I pawned that one for the new 3805 and the nasty center channel sound was still there. I ran across a few in the Polk forum that were expriencing the same problem and they recommended trying another brand receiver and sure enough, with a test yamaha RXV-2500 the problem was gone. The yamaha was bit underpowered for my 4 ohm Polks so that began my search for a new receiver which led me to the 990.
There many, many reasons from my experience the 990 outperforms the Denons. It wins hands down in every category, especially in overall sound quality and don't forget the outstanding customer support from Outlaw, try getting that from Denon.
Hope that helps you out a little.

I can't say anything about a 3806 either. I use a 3805 in my bedroom. It's ok, warm and rounded and sweet like a bedroom system ought to be but not even on the same planet as a 990.

I owned a Denon 3802 in the past as well. While not identical to the 3806, I'm sure there are quite a few similarities. I went with the 990/7125 combo and I will never look back at another Denon again. No contest.

I was a devout Denon fan, convinced it was the best product out there in a receiver. I was afriad to make the jump to separates becuase of the cost. But after looking through this forum, seeing Outlaw's price and taking a chance, Denon simply pales in comparison. If you're considering the move, trust me; make the move! You will not regret it.

Does anybody place value on the Audyssey MultEQ (room EQ) system contained within the Denon? It's supposed to be the cat's meow.

Audyssey is good, but it's only one of the many solutions out there. The system developed internatlly by Harman Kardon that is in their receivers is also supposed to be good, maybe even better than Audyssey. You can also take the alternative approach of using an outboard EQ where it matters -- on the bass frequencies -- and get a 990 with the SMS-1.
