Anyone have issues with the 990 properly locking onto the surround format?

My 990 has started to have issues with locking onto the surround format. When it has this problem, the two main speakers have no sound, but the others do. If I cycle through the formats, the problem is fixed and sounds the way it should.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Yes, and I even tried new cables.

I have run into an issue with discs with both Dolby Digital and DTS. The 990 will absolutely not allow me to choose DTS decoding. I've checked and my DVD player has DTS switched on. Grrrrrrr....

I came across this problem a few times that 990 did not switch to the right decoding, after I had chosen the analog, stereo by-pass, on cd listening the night before. I hit DVD on the remote, 990 shows the right signal path to DVD with default digital decoding format (i.e. DTS), but no sound from any speaker at all. I had to either flip to other source (say vcr or CD)then flip back to DVD, then sounds came back. It is not a real big problem, but would share with you all. Kwok

I have a similar problem where the two main speakers occasionally get no sound. I've noticed this happening primarily when I switch from a DD source to a DTS source or vice versa. I fix the problem by switching to a new source and then back to the original source.

Seems like there are at least a few units that have this issue. Hopefully someone is looking at fixing this, and I hope it's a software issue.

I've never actually lost the sound altogether, but I have had it randomly change my system presets and/or attempt to play back 2-channel stereo sources in PLII mode.
Cheers,

Yea, mine does that by default. 2-channel is sent to PLII Movie by default based I guess on the settings that I chose in setup.
This issue is where not all the speakers get sound and you need to switch format to get the mains to come back online again.

Hmmm...last night I was watching a DVD and then, when I switched to my Audiotron DAR (TOSLINK into the 990) to listen to some music, the left channel was 100% absent. Turning the unit on and off did not fix the problem. Somewhow...I managed to get the left channel working again. Some details - the DAR is set up (in the 990) to default to 2-channel mode (I may toggle occasionally between bypass, stereo, and upsample) and I made no changes. This has never happened before. What gives?
Here's another oddity...
When I switched on the tuner, the left channel was present...so it's logical that this is a digital-domain issue.
Hmm...sounds like a software update is needed... Who agrees with me? has anyone seen anything about a software update? Seems that the 970 already has received an update (available on the site). Where's the 990's update?

I had jester7677's issue tonight as well. I was listening to 2-channel music (I have totally shifted my ratio of movies 95% music 5% to more like 50/50 now due to the excellent 2-channel performance of the unit. Every time I pop in a CD from my collection, it is like hearing something for the first time with the details I never knew were there. I think my wife is under the impression I am going through a mid-life crisis or something and trying to recapture my youth through loud music, but I just can't get over the performance of this unit). When I switched to a movie in the same DVD player and started watching the THX trailer at the beginning of Toy Story 2 I had all channels but left and right which surprised me as I thought I would still be in Upsample mode if anything. After hitting the Dolby button on the remote, the R/L channels came right back. Minor issue in my opinion, but you would think it is also easily fixable via an update.
