Hi I'm having a couple of problems that I was hoping to get some help with. I'm not getting any overlay (volume, source, etc) OSD through component video. The main menu OSD works just fine, but I'm not getting the overlay info OSD. I've searched the archives, but I can't find any resolution to the problem. Secondly, I'm getting alot of digital pops through a coax connection for a Pioneer (C36) DVD player. I'm hearing the pops during changes when watching previews or when I invoke the menu on the DVD player. I will try the optical connection tonight, but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Hi Rob, I can't speak to the popping sound you're experiencing other than it sounds like you're on the right track with trying other digital connections from your DVD player.
Unfortunately, the 990 will not display any OSD overlays through the component or DVI video connections. The menu appears by over-riding any video signal that is coming into the 990 and being passed out to your TV.

sraber, Thanks for the reply !! Am I misunderstanding the way the overlay OSD is suppose to work or is this a bug ? So, if I had a composite connection and was watching that video input it would display the OSD overlay ? I have all my equipment in a closet and out of sight. Since I am setting up my new home theater, it is really frustrating that when I change the volume or surround mode I don't see the level or what mode I'm in.

Gonk, Thanks for following up on this. I forgot to mention that in my response to Rob. If the input is anything other than DVI or component, the overlay will appear on the component output. (Not sure about DVI...)

Gonk, Thanks for the reply. It sounds like for now I'll also run a S-video input until I become more famiar with the sysyem or leave it hooked up all the time in case I ever need to see the OSD overlay info. Thanks, Rob

I found this problem too and now, after a fair amount of frustration, have a composite cable to the Video 1 input on my Panasonic plasma, along with its Component 1 input. Wouldn't you think from the manual's ". . . you should always use a component, S-Video, or composite video connection along with the DVI connection" (p. 21) that the on-screen display would work over a component connection? I hope there are no more little surprises of this kind.
