Has anyone tried out the SONY RM-2100 universal remote with the 1050 ?
What other remotes have you folks used ?
The 1050's remote is not bad but it would be nice to find an all in one remote that functions well with the Outlaw and my other components.
The SONY remote is about $150 vs $300 for a 'comparable' Pronto or Marantz. I guess the $150 price difference probably means a few hours training the keys rather than downloading the codes from a web site. I wonder if it's worth the time to save some money.

I use that remote. It takes some time to teach it for the 1050 and it didn't work quite right without some additional command learning for some other equipment I had, but it works pretty well after a few hours of tweaking.

While I haven't used the Sony remote, I own a Pronto and swear by the thing. Not sure what I did without it. I know my wife had to call me at work to figure how to watch something other than the Dish. Now she taps the screen and everything magically switches for her.

It takes a bit of patience initially (and the extra money, of course) but it was a fun project to set it up and customize it to look how I wanted it to look.

I like the Sony RM-VL900 universal remote a lot. It's compact, fully programmable, and has just enough buttons to take care of the functions you use 90% of the time (and few enough buttons that the remote isn't unwieldy). It works great with the 1050 once you spend 10 minutes or so programming the remote. I looked at bigger remotes with a fancy touch screen (like the 2100) and was seduced by how cool they were, but ultimately couldn't justify the cost (and they're just to big to be comfortable). You can get the VL900 for around $40, which is definitely worth the money.
