Hi All,
I am very satisfied with my 950 but I also like new stuff:) I was curious if the extra $400 investment is well worth it or if the $400 is spent on bragging rights.

Any advice?

Thanks!
Joe

I've really been pleased with my upgrade. There are a couple extras that have been very well received here - editable input names for video inputs (so my wife knows what the active input is, since for some reason "Video1" equating to the DVD-R didn't work so well), an extra component input, transcoding from s-video or composite to component, and the DVI switching have all be very nice to have. It also has shown an edge over the 950 on sound.

The upgrade will probably set you back at least $600 or so (since 950's seem to be fetching anywhere from $400 to $500 used), but it's been a good upgrade for me. As with anything, YMMV.

Woah... Seems like a tough deal to pass up, in that case.

Wooh, $700 is a good sell price.
Run don't walk for it. 990 is definitely an upgrade from 950, which I did.

I have been looking to maybe get a used 950 and the last three that I have seen on ebay have gone for over $600. At this price it would seem that the 990 becomes an even better value as you compare the ugrades that it has to offer and the fact it can be had new for $350 to $400 more than the 950's used selling price. The only thing that I have against the 990 at this point is its height. I dont believe I can get it in my existing rack.

$700 sell price for the 950 is fantastic opportunity. I wish I had an offer anywhere near that price. Anyway, for me the biggest benefit going from 950 to 990 is the two channel music playing. My favorite mode for listening music cds are "upsampling mode". With 990 in place, I am not using my other two channel music system as much as I used to. But like rdperry said, make sure you have plenty space in your rack for 990. I had to cut out the back panel of my rack and still barely fitted. I measured 990 before I ordered it but I was still shocked how big this thing was in person. So far I am very satisfied with my upgrade to 990 from 950.
