If any outlaws are familar with the Home Theater Master MX-850/800 remote control setup...

I just started programming a MX-850 for my 990. On the IR Database, I see the codes for an Outlaw 950. Should I use those, or are there other codes for the 990?

Thanks, Duke97

Gonk is generous enough to host a file I created for the 990 a while back. I made it for my mx-700 so it should work for you (I think).

The 950 and 990 use different codes. You should either use the Sherwood P-965 codes, Jed's MX-700 file, or my MX-700 file .

Jed & Gonk, thanks for the input. I just downloaded Gonk's 990 file and will finish set-up.

I just got my 990 today, and plan on setting it up tomorrow. Can anyone tell me if any of these posted MX-700 files have discreet codes for the 990?

Thanks,

Scott

The 990's power on and off commands are discrete ("power" is "off" and any input command doubles as "on"). I haven't used Jed's, but I think it's very similar to mine - power on and off discrete, all the inputs, and any other button that shows up on the 990's stock remote (sync, trim, and such).

I've ordered the Logitech 880, anyone have any issues w/ this? I got it from Costco.com for $199;no problem w/ returns. I'll be using it w/ the 990 and the Dish 921...

I've read good stuff about it - be interested to hear how it works for you.

Yeah! Do let us know how it works. I'm trying to decide between a 880 and one of the MX units.

Will be especially interested to hear how well the web programing really works and whether it gives a complete set of codes.

I have the Logitech 880 (and the Outlaw 990) and have been using it without problems for 3 months. It is really nice to have a remote that can turn on 3, 4 or 5 different audio/video items with the push of a single button. It's also very nice not to get a cell phone call from the wife, asking "what did I do wrong, I can't get the TV to work." when I'm MILES from home wink
Once programmed, it is simple enough for my 6 year old to use, whether it's for the PSTwo, DVD player, or just watching cartoons on the big screen.
A couple notes: You have to point and hold the remote toward the (audio/video rack) for a few seconds, so everything associated with the chosen command can be turned on or off. You can't just push 'watch TV' and set the remote behind a chair or it may not have enough time to turn on/off all associated hardware.
Also, when you program the remote, don't choose the 'expert' (I know everything about electronics) programming mode. Instead, choose the middle level (intermediate, I think) level. This will enable the program to ask you additional questions that will make programming the remote much more thorough, and probably successful the first time thru. ( I was able to get it in one try) In addition, Harmony has a great customer support staff that can (and will) actually walk you thru any set up problems you may encounter.
Also, the 'HELP' feature on this remote is a GREAT addition to the package. It lets the remote help you figure out why something is not working. For example, if your little child decides to turn off the TV manually (old habit), the remote won't know that it is off. So when you try to turn things on again, the TV won't light up (because the remote thinks it is still on). By pressing the HELP button, you answer a series of simple YES or NO questions, and balance is once again restored to the universe laugh
This remote can be had for as little as $175, if you shop around, but is worth full price in my opinion.
A simple, easy to use, full function remote, for a really decent price. And no, I do not work for Harmony/Logitech. smile
