Hey everyone:

I was wondering if anyone here has the axiom epic 80's speaker system (or heard them) and if they sound good matched with the Outlaw 990. I read a great article on Audioholics.com that raved about these speakers. Thanks!

Hello, Yes I’m using a 990 with Axiom speakers and the clarity in the music is amazing. In short I’m very pleased with them and Outlaw. I didn’t purchase the Axiom sub because at the time the reviews for the HSU seemed so much better, however that may have changed since I made the purchase 1 ˝ years ago. Axiom’s support is excellent very much like Outlaw’s and my speaker order arrived to my Pa home within a week. If you are interested in hearing the speakers in your area, try posting on Axiom’s newsgroup and I’m sure someone in your area will let you hear them. Hope this helps.

Outlaw 990
7 – 200 mono blocks
2 – Axiom M80ti’s
1 – Axiom VP150
4 – Axiom QS8’s
1 – HSU VTF-3 subwoofer

Thanks Leap! I appreciate the feedback....

I am a movie nut.....how does this combo sound for DVD movie playback? I think I will end up getting the EP500 or 600 sub with the system....or even perhaps the LFM-1 from Outlaw.

Would you describe the sound of these speakers as...bright, warm or just right?

Thanks again!

Yes I’m a movie nut also! In fact this weekend it’s “The Amityville Horror” and “The Interpreter”. Through the week I like to listen to cd’s or Sirius radio using stereo mode on the 990. I would say they are “just right” but I’ve heard others online say that Axiom speakers are “bright” and that always puzzles me. I would think that the room acoustics, speaker placement, the gear you’re using with them, the settings and especially the media would make the difference. My living room is the typical living room with carpet, a sectional, a recliner, coffee table etc. and not that perfect acoustical theatre I wish I had but I’m very pleased with the sound. I’ve had several comments from friends referring to the clarity and it is pretty amazing to hear detail in music that you’ve not heard before. So I think the combination of the 990, the mono blocks and the Axiom speakers are just right but then that’s my opinion and what your ears like is really what’s important.

Gear not listed before:
Onkyo DVD DV-CP702 (I love the chain mode feature on this deck!)
Panasonic DVR DMR E85H
Dish Network 811
Hitachi Ultravision 51”

Awesome! Thanks for solidifying my decision.
I see that you have a Hitachi Ultravision....I've been eyeing those up for quite some time. I want to complete the sound first though....makes the TV all the much better.....take care!

I am also running a 990 setup with Axiom's, including their EP600. I purchaed them all site unheard, but I'll say I'm 100% satified. The EP600 is an incredible sub, (and a great way to find out if you have anything that rattles in the room!). My only 'complaint' if you can call it that is that I'd like to be able to adjust the sub via remote control. You can attempt this through the 990 but it not quick and unintrusive to the movie or whatever you are watching.

Goodluck
