I'm planning on buying the 755 for my amp pretty soon. I had planned to just buy the 990 to go with it - the balanced outs are a big plus. But what's the point of me going with the 990 due to the balanced outs if the 755 can't accept them? I would just go with 5 2200's, but I really put all of my budget into my speakers.

I'm thinking of just using the new Denon 3806 as my pre with my amp being the 755. The HDMI switching for the 3806 is clearly a nice feature to have. I'm assuming the room correction of the 3806 would be very good as well.

I'd love to go with all Outlaw gear, so here's your chance to talk me into the 990 over the Denon 3806.

Speakers -

Front - VMPS 30's
Surround - Aerial Acoustics SR3

Thanks

I think the 770 and 755 are both due to have a new design very soon just like the M200 and the 7100 did. I thought I read that the new 770 and 755 were to get balanced inputs as well. Could be wrong about that. Of course the new amp is going to cost you a bit more than what you are going to be get the older 755 for now.

One nice point for me with the 990 balanced output has been that of the subwoofer output. I use prosound equipment to power my sub and the balanced output allowed me to remove the level conversion device from my signal path.

Balanced inputs are a matter of some debate - some recommend them highly, others recommend against them unless you have unusual circumstances that justify them. As clo2016 points out, the 755 and 770 are being phased out and will be replaced later this fall with new amps that we expect to include balanced inputs. On the one hand, if you are definitely in favor of a balanced arrangement, you should have several options from Outlaw to choose between. On the other hand, both the 755 and 770 have been marked down recently and can currently be considered a great bargain.

It seems to me that the discussion of 990 vs Denon is unrelated to the balanced outputs (since the 3806 doesn't have them). The 3806's feature list is respectable - very comparable to the 990's - but I don't know how it sounds compared to the 990 (which I think very highly of). The 990/755 combo is both a very good value from a cost standpoint ($2150 for a processor that sells for $1100 and an amp that originally sold for $1300) and a very good performer irrespective of price.
