Which Pre/Pro and AMP combo?

Hello everyone! I need your help.... I have Polk speakers all around with a Klipsch subwoofer RSW-12. I recently bought a house and needed to liquidate some AV Gear. Now I'm back in the groove and need to power my speakers again. I heard about Outlaw Audio from a guy at Tweeter....anyway I heard the Rotel RSX 1067 and RSP 1068. It appears they have similar processors as the Outlaw 990. My question is, which setup would be a better match for my Polks? The rotel pre/pro with RMB 1095 and 1080 amp (7.1) or the Outlaw 990 and 770 amp. I of course have the full 7.1 speaker package. Any help would be appreciated. I am very excited to buy a Pre/pro...been using receivers up to this point (Yamaha, Sony and Harman Kardon)
Thanks! Sorry the message is so long!

Having heard some of the Rotel gear you mention, I can say that I'm glad I purchased Outlaw equipment instead. It's cheaper and more importantly (to my ears) sounds better. I'm not sure what you mean by "match" your Polks. Polks aren't a terribly difficult load and are reasonably efficient. So any quality amp should be able to drive them just fine. Given the choice between Outlaw and Rotel, I'd pick Outlaw every time.
Cheers,

I agree on the sound of the 990 - transparent and detailed, astonishingly so in the deep bass. You don't say if you ever play LP records: the Rotel units have no phono input (very few HT TPA's do) but the 990 has a surprisingly good one. (Though I could wish the gain were higher; I seem to have to turn the volume up about 10db to match the sound level from the other inputs. My pickup's a Grado Red, so this isn't a question of low output.) Re "matching" your Polks, the only question that occurs to me is whether their impedance drops to 4 ohms anywhere in the audio range, and the answer, if it does, is just to make sure any amplifiers you get show a power output figure at 4 ohms. I don't think that's a problem with any separate power amps. I don't know of any possible interaction problem that would involve a preamp like the 990, or any other for that matter. Does anyone else?

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. What I meant by saying match was which setup would give me the best sound/performance. I know it is kind of a bland question...I guess ultimately I am fishing for what sound I can expect from the Outlaw gear. Since I have heard the Rotel equipment I would describe them as a bit bright but detailed. This is my first venture into seperates and I am very picky when it comes to electronics. I just want to make sure I am making a "sound" decision..pardon the pun. Also, I was curious how two subs sound since the 990 has duel sub hook up...I was thinking of maybe selling my Klipsh or mating it with the LFM-1...whatcha think? Thanks again for the responses.

The 990 sounds (to me) better than any pre Rotel produces (at any price).
As for dual subs, I have 2 LFM-1 subs in a fairly large listening room and I mostly leave the 2nd one powered off. Outlaw is simply saving you the cost of a y-adapter since SW1 and SW2 outputs are outputting exactly the same signal.
I've never heard the Klipsch sub so I can't comment on how it compares to the Outlaw subs.
Cheers,

Ritz,
Are you saying that getting two subs isn't really worth it? Also, speaking of subs...does the 990 have crossover settings for the sub itself? I know it has crossovers for the other speakers. BTW - I saw that guy William in the other forum....what a tool...rambling on about paying $20 more for shipping....you guys handled him well.
Chris

Yoda,
I run Polk Lsi15's up front, LsiC for center, and LsiFX for surrounds. I have the 990 and the 755 and could not be happier. The Lsi are one of polks more demanding speaker as I recall, and the 755 handles them without a problem. When I moved to the 755 I got a lot more depth out of my Lsi15's up front, that is to say that the Lsi15's seemed to reach a lot lower.
Overall I think that the Polk/Outlaw is a great match.
Go ahead and pull the trigger. I am pretty sure that there are a few guys over in the polk forum that run outlaw as well..... Maybe some one over there can give you more specifics about the RTI series.

My opinion, after trying it, was that one sub is enough. And I'm a bass hound. Want to buy my extra one? It's only about 2 months old. 8-)
Yes, the 990 has crossover settings, but not specifically for the sub. You set the crossovers for all the other speakers and any low frequency material can either get routed off to never never land or to the sub. So you've effectively got crossover control for the sub. The sub also has its own internal crossover and phase shift capability for those that like to do it that way.
As for that other fellow...yeah, that was a little annoying. But I guess it takes all kinds, right?
Cheers,

Nemos2,
Thanks for the reply. I am very happy to hear you are pleased with the 990 and your Polks. That makes me feel even better about my choice. Thanks to all ya'll I'll be getting the 990/770 Combo!!!
The real trick is going to be getting the finacee to agree to it. She doesn't know the real value of electronics...she sees the price and flips out!!
I'll post again...hopefully after I have managed to get the Outlaw gear!!
Thanks again to everyone!
