I couldn't find information in the manual, so I thought I would ask here. What is the frequency response coming from the subwoofer outs? I have a Buttkicker that goes down to something like 4hz, and while most DVDs /CDs don't go that low, some do, so I'd like to get those frequencies if I can.

Are you looking to find out about any filters or limits imposed by the 990 on the sub outputs? As far as I know, there are none except for the bass management (which would not affect the sub aside from the material steered to it from other channels). There may be a low pass filter on it (to keep material above a certain frequency from reaching the sub), but I don't think there is.

Oh now, that's interesting. IIRC the 950 has a 120 Hz Low Pass Filter on the sub out. Or, is it on the 6 CH Direct sub input? Regardless, DVD-Audio fans will want to be careful with titles that use the sub channel as if it were a full range speaker. It may be worthwhile to engage the sub's own filter if you do a lot of listening to DVD-As.

We were talking about the low end cut off, not the high end Dollarbill. The sub out will not limit your sub to 20hz. If your source has bass down to 10hz and your sub/tactile feedback unit can produce it, it will.

I figured as much but, since the topic came up, the high end is important to know as well. I think Gonk was referring to a low pass filter I mentioned.

Yep, DollarBill, I was wondering if there might be a low pass tucked in there, since the 950 had a low pass filter of some sort on the sub - I don't recall for certain, but I think that filter may have been on the six-channel direct input on the 950, and I believe it was closer to a 250Hz filter no matter where it was. Since the 990's sub test tone passes full-range, I don't think there is a filter on the 990's output (which also matches up nicely with Scott's post above). Also, the 990's 7.1 direct input uses digital bass management rather than an analog approach such as the one used by the 950, making an analog filter unnecessary at that point.
