Hi Rob,

Did you get an answer to your question? I've been trying to figure out the same thing. The information on the Oppo website seems to mainly concern higher-end third party remotes.

Please drop me a line if you figure it out.

Thanks,
Terrapin

I'm currently running a Samsung HD-DV931 DVD player through the DVI input of my 990. The Sammy is heading south fast and I've been looking into the Oppo. Since a couple of you have DV971H, can you confirm if it lives up to the hype?

Thanks in advance

The fix for the remote problem is to replace it with a Pronto or equivalent. I do not like the 990 remote and upgraded to a MX-3000. The only downside was that I had to program it from scratch because I couldn't find the discrete codes. Good luck laugh

The Oppo is an excellent player - it does its best work with really good transfers, but even mediocre transfers look as good as you're likely to get without spending a lot more than the Oppo's $200 price tag.

Thanks! I just pulled the trigger on the Oppo. It will interesting to see how it compares to the HD931 which also has the Faroudja DCDi chipset.

Det,

How is the Samsung "heading south?" I've got an older version (the HD841...actually 2 of them...one has been extensively modified) and both have been running like a champ.

Cheers,

My Samsung DV HD931 is having issue with some dual layer DVDs when it cuts over to the 2nd layer usually about 1/2 through a movie. When it first started happening I thought the DVDs were flawed. Since I have a couple years on the Sammy with lots of hours, the laser output may be decreasing. I cleaned the lens and that didn't help any. I have a Pioneer Elite DV45A and that reads the DVDs the Sammy has issues with perfectly.

Except for the lame remote and slow response time of the buttons, I've been very happy with the DV931.

Got the Oppo DV971H hooked up the 990 tonight via DVI. No issues with the remote. I even tried the Outlaw remote in addition to my MX-3000.

This Oppo DVD remote really needs a backlight mad Other than that, I really like it. I can't say the video quality is nay better than the HD931 but it's definitely a more flexible unit with the DIVX support and all.
