The in-laws are here and watching Braveheart...for the umpteenth time. grrr...when they're done, I'll document the steps to repeat the problem.
Pardon me while I go drink heavily and sulk in another room. 8-)
Cheers,

I have the same gear as you and have not experienced this problem. Have you tried to hook the DVI cable from the Oppo to the other DVI input on the 990? That would trouble shoot a little anyways...

Can't help myself, though I'm sure you've heard this before: Sounds like Ritz is going crackers!

Well, it looks like he's got such a nice system that he's "putting on the Ritz" for his inlaws.

Well I tried several changes last night. Tried moving the Oppo to the other DVI same problem, turn on the Oppo remote doesn't work, turn it off and it works again.
Hooked up my HD receiver through the other DVI turn that on and same problem, although it does respond a little bit, but might loop, vol down and it suddenly goes way down. Allmost like the "blocking" signal is not quite as strong on that piece.
Disconnected the DVI out from the back of the 990 so just have the 2 DVI in's hooked up. Still same problem.
So I guess there must be something up with my 990 as I seem to be the only one with this issue.
I'll try tech support again and see if the have any other possible solutions.

Its works fine with the component input, and the picture and sound do function when I use the DVI input. Its just then that the remote can't change anything, no volume up or down, no menu (obviously on the other input of the TV as there is no menu through DVI) when pointed directly at the unit. I have to turn the DVI source off for it to function properly again then menu and volume resume working again. I'm still inside my initial trial so I don't know if I should expect a replacement unit.
Thanks
